Rare Jersey - Rare Bike

http://www.wooljersey.com/gallery/album17/arbos_jpg

Fritz Schaer riding in 1952 for g.s. Arbos-Pirelli, probably at the Tour de Suisse. Not a great view of the bike, but you can see bits of the head lugs and the rather pretty fork crown. Schaer was supposed to be part of the Swiss team for the 1952 Tour de France, but after finishing 27th in the Giro d'Italia and 7th in the Tour de Suisse, and with a stage win in each of the races, Schaer was a no-show in France. A year later, though, Schaer would win the first two stages, finish 6th overall, and become the winner of the first-ever Green (points) Jersey in the Tour de France. From "Le Numero-Programme du Tour 1952".
