Bob, All:
I think many toe clip failures at the front plate happen when the toe clip
is raised too much and the foot pressure from repetitive thrusts finally
fatigues and breaks the clip off the plate.
So a little depth won't hurt.
You could file the slot a little if you want to raise it, but I wouldn't
bother.
Some of the Japanese clips had a little wider foreplate, but metal quality
and hitting ground with clip also play a major factor.
