Backed up by sales figures as well... which shoots a few holes in commonly-held beliefs about the bike boom (for example, that it was pretty much toast by the time the gas crisis hit).

Speaking of The Dancing Chain, I'm not up on the various models of Rally derailleurs but did I read in TDC that only one model of several iterations had a top pivot spring? And that the ones without the spring were awful? Maybe that explains why there is such a large range of affection/distaste expressed in the current thread... when folks say "Rally" could they be talking about very different derailleurs?
