You've pretty much covered it Ted!!!

I'd just add that here in SoCal it is important to "solution" the sidewalls of tubulars once in a while to keep them from drying out and deteriorating really fast. Here in LA when the Santanas* blow the humidity will get down to 4 to 7%; that and the endless sunny days really dry out sewup sidewalls! A little distilled water mixed in with the latex solution, applied with an "acid" brush, dusted with talc after it dries to cut the stickiness, and you're good to go!

*In Raymond Chandler's story Red Wind, Santa Anas are introduced as "those hot dry [winds] that come down through the mountain passes and curl your hair and make your nerves jump and your skin itch. On nights like that every booze party ends in a fight. Meek little wives feel the edge of the carving knife and study their husbands' necks. Anything can happen."
