The only tire wipes I have used are the Velox type that attach to the brake bridges. They are steel wire with a bit of plastic tubing that acts as a spring to place the wiper blade against the tire. I am not an expert but I consider it very unlikely that you would wear out a tire from these devices. The road is much more abrasive than these are, they remove debris before the tire is flatted which in my book is more important than than if they remove .00000001 microns of rubber every year. I have seen tires wear out the savers but never a hint of the other way round. If I can prevent a flat on a $100 tubular and it wears out 30 minutes faster over a lifetime, I think that trade off is a no brainer.
