Following the recent discussion about Renaissance Cycles, I’d like to add my observations.

1. Recently I sent two packaged bikes (really 1½ bike) to the US; the first one arrived at the new owner within 5 days. Yes, it startled me too. Statistically insignificant it may be, but there is hope. Haven’t heard yet about number two though. It’s also worth noting that it is not easy to stay within the size and weight limits of the postal service. The max size of the box is only just enough for a medium sized frame, 1½ bike resulted in one box just under 10 kg (49 euros), the other one at 12 kg (82 euros). It is insured at a max value of 150 euros though. 2. My idea of the 'complaint' about Renaissance Cycles is that it's not about the delay, but about the lack of communication. I once had the misfortune of paying over 600 euros to someone in (former eastern) Germany for 24 Veloflex tires, only to receive them 9 months later. No communication whatsoever in the meantime, no reply to either email fax or voicemail. After some time you begin to believe that you've just sponsored the local mafia. All this just to say that when you're doing business in cyberspace, mutual trust is essential. For that you need prompt and accurate communication. Flakiness? No, rather not.
