I thought I might add a few comments to those already posted about last
Sundays Larz Anderson show. Aside from the heat (hey guys do something
about that next year) it was a blast (pun intended). It goes without
saying that Maurice B. and Peter N. are to be congradulated as is the
Larz museum staff. The organization I thought was flawless. Set em up,
register, and start ogling the bikes and gossiping with old and new
friends. Thats just what I and my wife Brenda did.
The usual suspects were there Peer Weigle, Richissimo Sachs, Jerry Moos,
and Joe Bender-Zannoni who turns up everywhere I go. I am sure he is
there to make sure he gets to buy whatever I want (just kidding Joe).
Anyway I did have some great talks with some really interesting bike
freaks including those Ive just mentioned. One was really cool. Mr Cote
(Apparently Allen Cotes father) who is not a young man, but came with
his 1938 Paramount track iron. Turns out its the bike he raced on in
just that very year. I love talking to guys like that. That is were, I
think, the heart of this hobby is...in being able to place faces and
lives to the bikes we collect rather than just making a fetish out of them.
Met 5-speed Jack Demarest for the second year and am hoping to see him
at the Eroica in the Fall. There were, of course some amazing bikes. Ken
Dennys Cinelli just knocked my eyes out as did Maurices Masi. Other
too numerous to mention. Several weeks ago I sold my old 1964/5 Peugeot
PX10 to Billy Rounds. It was pretty much a disaster. He shows up with it
totally redone in his inimitable style. He even put my name on it,
although he spelled Eddie, Eddy. But then I always wished I had been
Eddy from Belgium rather than Eddie from Long Island. Anyway, thanks to
all who made the event possible....Until next year.
