I got a bike a year or two ago that had Linseed Oil used as a rust preventative inside it. It had pretty much migrated to all over the lower stays and BB. I had little luck removing it until I got some of my Automotive Bug and Tar remover out of my car wash stuff. Stuff will take off most anything from a painted surface without paint damage.
