First, snapshots of true cromovelato (clear lacquer over chrome) This is a red Olmo thats just a year older than my (very tired looking in comparison) cromovelato yellow Olmo

I think Hugh is describing a Cinelli that IS cromovelato, caught my attention because of the fender reference, and the impending completion of a very lovely flambouyant red Mod. B that I got from one of our own, Pete Paine. Son as its finished, I'll get someone to host the fotos, complete with matching NOS flambouyant red Bluemels (!) fenders!

-snip- For one of my custom frames the customer insisted on a black chrome finish and we were able to find a local plater who could do it. Quite stunning!

BTW, my first Cinelli was "candy apple red" which was chrome with transparent red over the top. Even the fenders supplied to me by Cinelli had the same finish.

Unfortunately such finishes tend to chip and scratch easily because the paint has been applied to the very slick polished chrome surface.
