Isn't Japan being a little bit overlooked here? At least later in the CR period, say '77 - '84. You could put together a mighty nice '81 Zunow or 3Rensho (not to mention many others) with a complete Suntour Superbe or Shimano group, Araya rims, Panaracer tires... many other choices for a complete Japanese build.
