Getting 753 certified, at least in the early 80s, involved brazing a sample joint or two with 753 tubing, sending them in to Reynolds, and having them do destructive testing on the joints. Reynolds insisted on silver solder and I don't know anybody personally who tried it with brass, but there is a story, perhaps apocryphal, that Cuevas insisted on using brass for his 753 frames.
