Speaking of touring, even thru Montana, me and my pygmy pony, have used dental floss for sewing canvas and nylon panniers. It even got us out of a more desolate part of the Apache Reservation by sewing up (using butterfly stitches) a 2 inch rip in the rear tire. It held, and supported a full camping kit to boot.
