Even though Peugeot is among my favorite marques and I am an infamous Francophile, I would rate the durability of Peugeot chrome as only average. I think the top model Schwinns were clearly better.

I see references to Raleigh, Peugeot and others. Been there, done that and no comparison. If you left them in the same elements for the same duration Schwinn would win every time. Raleigh has a habbit of hazing then slowly crazing and finally pitting. Those that clear coat, like Peugeot, are mearly adding protection to average plating. Over time you get a flaw in the clear coat and rust starts then you try to clean it with a cleaner and now the clear coat becomes the problem. I clouds up or yellows till it makes the chromed area look a mess. You have to strip the clear coat to polish the chrome and if you lucky you will not damage the adjoining paint. Yes the Schwinn chrome is heavy but you asked which is best not which is lightest.
