This is something I warned list members of 3 months ago, but all is not lost - yet!

I am not sure why the new volumetric weight calculator is on the Parcelforce website (other than to frighten people), as that calculator does not come into effect until September 2006. Certainly Post Offices are not yet using that calculator, and will charge the normal published rate. The same also applies if a home collection is arranged and paid for by telephone. The only questions they ask are weight and destination. Whether or not that standard rate has increased again I am not sure, but I will check with my local Post Office when they re-open on Tuesday. The last increase was in April 2005. Post Offices have recently become very critical about making sure maximum parcel sizes are not exceeded, and that may be a precursor to September.
