I mispoke or at least was not saying ewhat I meant..

<<BUT, many of the Made in Japan bikes (World Voyageur etc) would have come from Schwinn requiring much more assembly as compared to bikes today. These bikes were all in one large box but derailleurs, brakes & cables had to be installed by the shop and handle bars taped, etc. The wheels needed a lot of work too! So it is quit possible that the Schwinn shop could have gotten things switched around. >>

In the above, I say that the Schwinn Japanese-made bikes required a lot of assembly but in fact it was the Chicago Schwinns that were more disassembled initially. Sorry.

Yes, I worked in a large Schwinn shop while in grad school during this time..

In the early to mid 1970s, I doubt if a Paramount complete from Chicago bike would have come with Schwinn approved DiaCompe brakes installed, but instead would have been boxed with Weinmanns.

Weinmann? I'm not sure; mine say Dia-Compe on the back. Anybody sell these in the 70s?
