Why would any one want to place Italian components on a French bicycle? I have owned 30-40 Italian bicycles and never once thought of using French components on any of them. My one French bicycle was equipped with all French components. Just wondering.

When you look at all the French branded bikes that raced so successfully with Italian components (e.g. Gitane w. Campagnolo, Pivo, Cinelli etc - multiple TdF victories), you would think it a very good idea to put Italian bits on French bikes. In the late 40s, when Simplex derailleurs were the best around, it made sense to put them on Italian bikes, as was done with great success.
