I think the real issue cited with Mafac brakes on Dunlop steel rims may have more to do with the minimal braking surface of the Dunlop high pressure 27 x 1 1/4" steel rim than the brakes. These rims are absolute classics and spec'd for probably more lightweights than any other in their

day using clinchers. They are amazingly light and strong. Exceptional. But the braking surface on these low profile rims is about as much as your pinky's fingernail. Combined with slippery chrome plating and... w ell at least my '51 Clubman is better at going around trouble than stopping for it. The alloy version of the Dunlop hp is an entirely different animal f or braking.
