Suppose it's mid 1970s and you have a top o' the heap British frameset lik e a Harry Quinn. You want to spec the components. Pure racing stuff, no touring or puttering about. So fast and light. What was the prevailing stuff in the clubs back then?

The ever present Campag, some used Zeus and others French or mostly a mixture. Gears Campag, Zeus, Simplex and Suntour. Chainsets Campag, Stronglight, TA, Zeus and Sugino. Hubs mostly Campag or Zeus. Brakes Weinmann and Universal. Saddles plastic. Rims Mavic if on sprints, Weinmann, Birmilux or Wolber for HP's.

My Harry Quinn had Zeus chainset and pedals, Suntour mechs, Brooks Pro on Campag pin, Univesal brakes, Mavic sprints on Campag hubs. Cinelli bar and stem

Thats all for now. Keep those wheels spinning, in your memories if not still on the road. Be lucky Mick Butler Huntingdon UK.
