I believe that Colnago switched from fluted seat stays to the Colnago stamped seat stays in about 1978 or 1979, but am not absolutely sure. Any help from other CR list members would be appreciated.
The routing of derailluer cables switched from over the top of the bottom bracket shell to under the bottom bracket shell in about 1981, at which time the chain stays became more oval-shaped and were stamped with Colnago.
I believe that Colnago started to use sloping fork crowns on some of the later (1983 and newer) bikes but am not completely certain on this either???
There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of rhyme or reason to when chrome was used on lugs, chain stays, forks, etc. I have been told that chroming costs, painter preference, and environmental considerations may have dictated when chrome accents were used. I have a Super with all chrome rear triangle and chrome fork (no chrome lugs) that I am pretty certain is from 1978 or 1979. I also have Super with chrome lugs, fork crown and rear drop outs (no chrome on chain stay) that is most definately from about 1981. I have a Mexico with no chrome except the fork crown that is from 1978. Go figure.
Does anyone know the time frame from start to finish when the 6 arm ambrosio cranksets were in use?
