To celebrate Ernesto Colnago's birthday (Feb. 9th), there will be a Colnago Ride this Sunday Feb. 12.
The ride starts at 10am, at Dana Point Marina. Go to Marina Drive, and drive northwest to the public beach in the boat turn-around basin (don't drive south to Doheny Beach, we're not there!), up toward the Point itself. We'll be in one of the parking lots on the land-side, opposite the beach. If you need more detailed directions, e-mail me.
There will be morning snacks, juice, and coffee! Meet around 9, ride leaves at 10.
Weather is forecast to be mild and sunny. 70-degrees and clear.
We'll ride out of Dana Point, along Pacific Coast Highway north about a mile, to the Aliso Creek Bike Path. We'll take the path north to Niguel, and reconnect with the path in Laguna Niguel park.
This is a social-paced, no-drop ride. Don't feel like you can't come if you don't go fast. Carmen and I will be bringing up the rear in our Taynago tandem.. we don't go fast.
We'll ride the bike-path all the way to Cook's Corner, at the base of Saddleback Mountain, where we'll have lunch. Return by the same route except that we'll take Crown Valley to PCH and then to Dana Point, to avoid the hill back. The ride out is mildly uphill here and there. The ride back is almost entirely downhill, with a mild hill at the end.
This bikepath route is quite scenic, and the watering hole for lunch will be entertaining, I guarantee it! The entire ride will take most of the day and is about 45 miles, round-trip (but not that challenging, since the return is almost all downhill)
Bring a Colnago, pre-1984, if you have one, any vintage otherwise. If you don't have a Colnago, bring whatever you like. The main thing is to ride! Should be a fun ride!
See you there!
