Started to forward this to the list, but remembered the etiquitte about attaching pics to list postings. The catalog pic Kim sent shows an outer ring different from the normal 49D in that it has a sets of holes drilled closer in, at 86mm BCD, the mod 99 circle. The middle and inner rings mount on a single set of bolts which attaches to the outer ring through the 86 BCD holes. The text indicates that the middle and inner rings are the same as mod. 99, down to 28T. It also indicates a more limited choice of outer ring teeth than for the normal 49D outer ring.

So it appears that a 49D Tri consists of ordinary 49D arms, a special 49D Tri outer ring, and two mod 99 smaller rings, along with the appropriate bolts and spacers. I've never in my life seen this setup "in the flesh". All the 49D triples I've seen have used TA Cyclotourist rings. Maybe Spence Wolf or someone may have imported these to the West Coast and perhaps someone sold them on the East Coast, but I never saw one "in the day" in the Midwest.
