Well, yes and no. Some bikes are best with clips and straps. it just looks better. And with the right shoes etc. they work fine. We used them for more than a century. Clipless is newer and works better FOR ME but I have unusually long narrow-13AAA-feet and shoes have always been a problem. When my Sidi Titaniums and Rivats finally go I'm going to be in a pickle. So mostly I use a custom made pair of way out of timeline carbon fiber Rocket 7 shoes and Looks. Now, if you have a hard time getting old fashioned cycling shoes here's an alternative: dancing shoes and long TA cleats. Capizo (sp?) make shoes that look just like cycling shoes-no perfs-and work nicely as long as you aren't using them 12 hours a day. Get them resoled-when you see them you'll understand why. For the sort of rides most of us with the exception of Chuck Schmidt do they're great and look very authentic. And there are still a lot of NOS shoes around. Look for a shop that's been around for a while. My last pair of Ttaniums cost me $25 and the shop owner was doing the dance of joy to get it. Good luck, Phil Brown The sun was out for a while today in San Rafael, Calif.
