Watsonian, better known for motorcycle sidecars, produced a range of bicycle third wheel chassis. The No 7 single seater is the one most often seen on a tandem. It was intended to carry a small child no larger than the average four year old. As it was provided with safety straps, I suppose you could say that it was ahead of its time! The chassis did bank and I believe that the moovement was damped by tightening the bearings with wingnuts. It is a pity the query did not come a couple of days earlier as I saw one at the weekend and could have asked questions. The same chassis was used for a commercial platform or a box. When I was small, the local chimney sweep had one. I have just remembered that as a six year old it was my ambition to emulate him when I grew up. Wish I had; probably more enjoyable than teaching... fresh air, exercise and all that enjoyable grime. Oh, and it was traditional to be invited to weddings where you got to carefully kiss the bride.
