I previously posted a query as to whether the elusive DuraAce c-pull calipers were similar to Shimano 500 c-pull calipers. A lister was helpful enough to email a pic of the DA c-pull and with minor differences, the calipers appear identical. I've since picked up a pair of Shimano Tourney c-pulls and they are again the same with the exception that Tourney are long-reach, 500 are short-reach, and DA appear to be short reach.

Of interest is the asymmetric cable fastening/QR mechanism common to both 500 and Tourney (maybe DA too)...best described as a sidepull centerpull. This clever design eliminates the need for a straddle cable by running the brake cable around a cable saddle and QR device attached to one arm then anchoring the cable to the other arm with typical perforated bolt and nut. This design does not at once suggest equal application of pressure to both arms but in practice appears to do so adequately.

Now starts the Holy Grail quest for the DuraAce long-reach centerpull caliper!
