Regarding MAFACs, Norris said: "It's just a matter of adjustment."
That couldn't be more correct. Saturday before last at a country auction, I won 2 touring Gitanes for $20 total; they were from before '72. They were decked out with the carriers on the fenders, etc. I knew the shop they originated from and the owner, Richard "Mack" McConachie, (you racers may remember Gateway East Freewheelers team or his daughter Tracy who won 5 medals at nats) knew exactly how to tune or dial in the brakes. I was amazed when I rode the first one last night! Today's double pivots are good and I use them and sometimes am tempted to switch out of vintage sidepulls on vintage riders, but....these MAFACs binding a knurled rim with good cables/casings... well I am more than happy.
