Also:

Make sure you take out the washer that lives between the bolt and the crankarm . If you don't you will pull out the threads out of the arm when you tighten the inner bolt of the remover. And that hurts. No beer till after the operation is complete.

Seems I paid less than $5 for the puller at a local bike shop. You screw it into the threaded crank, then screw another bolt that runs through it that pulls the crank off. The key is to be sure you have it threaded all the way in your crank. I've pulled threads out in the past by mistake by not having it threaded into my crank all the way. Luckily this occurred on $10 yard sale bikes.

Hello All,

I know I shoulda done this before the weekend but I'm trying to remove a campy nuovo gran sport crankset from my '78 Raleigh Comp GS to upgrade to a NR crankset. I've got the pedals and crankbolts off but the crank arms seem to be stuck to the BB. Is there any way to remove these with common hand tools or do I need a special puller? TIA for your help.
