Hi all! I was just given a pretty cool pair of bikes, the first being an 80-ish Miyata 912 w/ all Shimano 600 componants. I'd like to turn it into a commuter/cross bike for my wife (53cm frame) and I'm wondering if this is really a good option. If so, how tough would it be to update to the Sora 7 or 8 speed 'brifters' and matching hub/cassette and the other bits to make it a hill climbing machine able to handle some dirt? My wife is no longer willing to beat up her OT LeMond on her daily commute...
