I have never personally used Tufo tubs or tape, but I met an OT cyclist in Seattle last year (selling him an OT frame) who swears by Tufo tape for his Tufo tubulars. He said they grip as well as glue, but when the tire is deflated, the tubular peels off the rim with no ugly mess. I have no idea whether the tape would work as well for non- Tufo tires or not. I don't know why not.
