Very useful info! I had heard that in addition to the greater width (1/8") of the pista rings, they were also strengthened with more material below the toothed rim.

I'd wondered whether perhaps this alleged "beefing up" of the rings around the bolt holes and the webs in between had made it impossible to fit 151 BCD pista rings any smaller than 46t - as was specified on earlier (pre-'69) cranksets.
