Try an english cup on the adjustable cup side. If it threads in, it's english. If too big, french (or possibly swiss, but let's not go there today!). Good luck. I couldn't see the picture; perhaps check privacy settings?

He is trying to remove the fixed cup form the frame, but we need to determine if it is French or English, so he knows which way to turn it. Sutherland's says 1 ring is French, two rings English. But what constitutes a "ring"? The cup shown has one separate raised section, separated from the rest of the cup by two recessed circles inscribed in the surface of the cup. Is the raised section one "ring", or is each recessed circle a "ring", meaning this would be two "rings"?

Normally, I'd just compare to a Stronglight BB on a bike with known thread, but they are all in storage right now.
