I believe there is a bit of a gray area as to whether you are permitted to back out of such a sale after the final bid has been made. In the event in question, the auction did end with a sale price of $12. You will however see that the seller has already left the 'purported' buyer positive feedback, making one believe that the seller explained the true situation to the bidder who agreed to not oblige the seller to go through with the sale.
