Subject: [CR] help ID head badge / bike

~ Well, now that someone has just mentioned the film "American Flyers", it had reminded me of another unresolved question regarding a bike in the film "Breaking Away."

Thanks to Chuck Schmidt's fine detective work and his CR posting of some 5 years ago, it was conclusively established that the Italian team bikes were all indeed Colnagos, and of course the true star of the film was a Masi. [Thanks Chuck!]

However, even now when reviewing the film on DVD, in slow motion, I still cannot make out the identity of one of the other bikes which was shown fairly clearly during the "Cinzano 100" race segment.

Just before our young hero catches up with the Italian team, he comes beside and then passes one last rider. This was a blonde American wearing the famous red, yellow & black "TI Raleigh" team jersey. The bike, however, was certainly not a Raleigh.

It was orange with a blue head tube and blue seat tube panel - similar to the colors of the early 70s Holdsworth Professional team bikes. The only detail I could make out on the headbadge was what appeared to be a black letter "V" arising from approximately the center of a round white oval.

It is probably quite obvious to someone out there, but I must confess my complete ignorance. Hope someone can quickly solve this minor mystery, so I can sleep peacefully tonight. ~ Thanks!
