Look at it this way: Your spouse loves you and you know it. Do you have to put that to the test every day? You know you have a super cool NIB vintage bike stashed away. Do you need to ride it? It is more pleasant to have the bike nerds come by and ogle at the boxed bike than see it built up. Kinda like why the old guys used to sacrifice virgins; they're unused.
Keep it in the box.
