Well, it was Buy It Now or Make Offer, and I saw in the bid history he refused three offers (eBay doesn't tell you what the offers were). So he may have been fishing for the sucker PT Barnum said was born every minute. And the frame looked like maybe 62 cm, not exactly prime size, making the price even more ridiculous.

The thing is, it really is a pretty nice bike, even despite some too-new bits. I might even have bid at $3500 less and about 7 cm shorter.

the subject of high priced Raleighs, how about the early 70's Carlton (pretty sure this was after the Raleigh takeover):

Pretty nice condition, but not NIB, not NOS, not even original. Buy It Now $4,000. Only an hour left, so hurry.

This kind of thing is always good for a laugh. Talk about fishing for suckers. I have to wonder if the seller really believes in that buy-it-now price. If he does, I have to wonder what he's been smokin'..
