Dear Lynn,

Did you get any answers? I live in Ann Arbor and I'd like to hear about Detroit, too.

I can offer two: Continental Bikes (John R Road) and Bike Tech. Continental is a really good new-bike dealer, with some vintage employees who understand the old stuff. They have some old parts in a hard to access place, so it's hard to get anything (like a cog) from them, and so far impossible in my experience! Bike Tech is mainly a used bike dealer, seems to be a buyer/reseller of old stuff, to riders in his neighborhood that do not have much income. But I have seen a really nice tiny early '70s Atala, the better kind, and some other good old lightweight steel.

In Ann Arbor you'll find Two-Wheel Tango and Great Lakes Cycles. Both are very good new bike dealers, who will not refuse a good customer with an old-bike problem. Neither sell any vintage, AA is too trendy for that! Several other local shops are in the same market niche. Farther outside of town lies Assenmacher Cycles way out near Lansing, and Doug Fattic in Niles near Indiana. Both Matt and Doug are on-topic framebuilders, with Matt also having a really nice working LBS. Worth checking out if you take a few extra days.

Need a beer? I'd be glad to show you Ann Arbor's brew pubs!

Dearborn is a strong restaurant destination, as is Royal Oak, as is Greektown in downtown Detroit.

Probably will not have time, but are there any shops of interest in the Detroit area?
