I feel I must correct this rather inaccurate statement from one of my fellow British compatriots: "Following on from Paul William's subject on cycling films brought back a few memories. Indeed Sir Jimmy Savill did ride in the 1951 Tour Of Britain but not being interested in road racing at the time I don't recall the details only that was more of a publicity stunt more than anything else
Jimmy Saville (and its spelt with a "E") riding of the Tour of Britain was not as this gentleman says a publicity stunt as he did compete as a Professional Cyclist's in over 300 races and was a very good rider. He was a brilliant leagurer, do I sence old NCU animosities on this one not being much interested in Road Racing at the time? Bets wishes Bert Palmer Greenford UK. Up the League.
