Mark Bulgier commented:

<snip> I remember one tandem I built that absolutely HAD to have Phil Wood hubs, because it was made for Mr. Phil Wood. He insisted on no cantilevers or other brake accommodations other than the F&R Phil disks (Yikes!) <snip> ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++=

1) I watched as a Phil-equipped front wheel on a triplet collapsed. The installation required dishing the front wheel, which is a Really Dumb Idea. Cutting back (on one side) on the bracing angle, now think about someone suddenly turning the front wheel at low speed, so the frame tries to overtake the front.

2) If anyone needs Phil brake parts for a restoration that will NOT be ridden, I have a supply of spares, including a burnt-out disk, and maybe a sheered one. Just for old-time's sake, I guess.
