I think the type of tubing used is greatly overrated. It is true that we often judge a frame by the tubing sticker, but that is just out of ignorance, because we often don't have enough other information. Some very good custom builders refuse to apply tubing decals, taking the position that the customer should rely on the builder's reputation. There have been some very nice bike built from Aelle. For several years, this seemed to be the second tier tubing of choice for Italian builders in the same way builders in most other countries used 531 DB maintubes or Super Vitus tubing. While Columbus Tretubi tubesets were more analogous to 531 DB maintubes, I've seen a lot more Aelle frames than Tretubi. I have a very nice Aelle 24" wheel ROMIC junior road bike I bought for my daughter many years ago.

Tubing itself makes no difference to ride quality as you say - its all about tube guage, butting profiles, geometry, and perhaps construction (although wise builders on this list have led me to agree it really doesn't matter much).

But my original comment still holds I believe. Why? Because the use of cheap tubing is a "marker" that the frame was built for a price. This is not always the case, as nice Rene Herse Speedy tubing bikes exist. But in general, if the maker is cutting cost on tubing, they are also probably making a frame for a price sensitive buyer. That means that build quality is likely to be less than first rate as well.

\r?\n> I have ridden plenty nice Aelle tubed bikes including one on the track.

\r?\n> Whilst it may not be the pro choice I never found any of the bikes
