I've recently set up a Juy 51 rear derailleur on my 1953 Gillott Taper Tube,
using the instructions which Hilary kindly copied to me a while ago. If you

As far as the front derailleur is concerned, I believe that my W P Newton would originally have had the Juy 53, which is prohibitively expensive now. (The rear derailleur is a Simplex Grand Tourisme, with the double Simplex derailleur lever operating on the right hand side of the frame - I would expect the front to have been Simplex also).
When I bought the Newton, however, it was fitted with a Benelux front derailleur, operating from the right like the Juy 53. It changes very well, especially considering the difference between the chainwheels, which are 44 and 28 teeth. I've seen a couple of these Beneluxes sell for not a great deal of money - if I remember rightly, a NOS one went for about £25 to £35 - and it could tide you over until a suitable Juy 53 became available.
