My first lightweight, when I was 16, had Campy Tipo hubs. Within a month the rear axle took a bend. Only a slight bend, but enough that the QR didn't slip right through.
The wrench at the LBS, said it happened all the time and not to worry: "Once it took the bend, it would stay that way"
15,000 miles later the bend was still there and the cones and cups were still good.
Same story with a late 70's Dura-Ace rear hub.
