Mike, the frame looks like the two frames I have from the early 1980s (1980-81 ?), so I think your friend had it almost right. I basing this on the the straight (non-biconical) seat stays and the "COLNAGO" pantographed seat stay caps, fork crown with club and "COLNAGO" cast in the top. The biconical seat stays that Colnago used in the 70s had their widest point at the brake bridge; they got smaller from that point to the top and to the bottom. I think around 1982-3 they started stamping the chainstays "COLNAGO."

My opinion... 1980-81?
