Subject: [CR]Are you safer in a dress?

"When I ride, I ride dressed comfortably and highly visible!! No bunch-in the crotch walking shorts but padded lycra ones, with a fluorescent yellow stripe and jersey to match and bright neon yellow helmet. It seems to ward off Texas Bubbas in Dually pickup trucks with wide sweeping wing mirrors" This seems to suggest that the more you look like a "real" cyclist the safer you are. It may be true in Texas but research in the UK indicates the opposite. The male researcher fitted a device the measured how close were passing vehicles. They were closest when he wore a helmet and lycra and furthest away when he wore a dress and long wig. (this could merely indicate that English motorists are anxious to avoid men in dresses!). Incidentally during the course of his research he was knocked off by both a bus and a lorry (truck). So ten out of ten for dedication. I hope he gets his research grant renewed.
