The point labeled "1" attaches to the shift lever; the point "2" to the derailleur. Since "A" is larger than "B", 1 moves farther than 2 by the same ratio. In use, A and B change through the range of travel in a non-linear way, so in theory the ratio changes, but not enough to notice I think.
