Of course what they really needed was a Strada pedal with LONGER cage plates. Despite having only 8 1/2 size feet, I've always found Campy road pedals a bit too narrow (short), especially when wearing touring shoes. Of course a lot of classic road pedals have this problem, but with Campy it is aggravated by a raised "tab" on the inside end of the cage plates, preventing one from sliding the foot inward a bit. This, more than ground clearance, is why Iike using track pedals on the road. TA road pedals on the other hand are noticeably wider.
