Dunno if it was the only school, but one of the Mechanical Engineering prof s at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo did this. Bill Patterson? Heck, I should remember, for reasons that I fear have more to do with a human-powered helicopter than bicycles, but the same prof used frame design as a regular classroom project. Cal Poly's HPV tradition is pretty strong -- believe the main library has or is building a significant archive of HPV-related material.
On topic content: While I was at Cal Poly in the late '80s, the Cal Poly Wheelmen were riding FUSO bikes built for them by their sponsor, Dave Moulton. Anyone know of another college-level team with such a cool sponsorship?
