Subject: [CR]Lam Brakes..

There never was any connection between Lam and CLB brakes, except that cyclists in the 40s and 50s often used to mix different brands of levers and stirrups eg Louison Bobet preferred to use Weinmann 730 stirrups with a pair of Mafac levers, probably prefering the Swiss brakes to pull him to a halt than the Lams that would have been available. For some reason for which I have never found and explanation none of the top French roadmen seemed to use the CLB/ALP stirrups that were available at that time. In England we really thought that these, coupled to the curvy-lineous cast ALP/CLB levers, really were the brakes to have.

"Gloria/Iseran" brakes were made in Lyon by Ets. A Lambert et F. Cagnon, "CLB/ALP" were made in St Chamond, in the St Etienne suburbs, and "LAM" were made in Paris by Henri Lamarque.

LAMs dated I think from the 30s through to the early 60s when they produced largely cheap steel pressed models.
