So I was at work today. Wife calls me up and says my bud down at the bike shop called and wants me to call him. So I do it. He says, "Hey Craig, a guy comes in to get a flat fixed today. He hauls in a butt ugly yellow bike." Silence for about 15 seconds and it hits my slow wit like a sledge hammer. "Are you sh.....n' me Brad?" I ride down there. Lo and behold there in the corner is my 1965 HR Morris, looking like a cat left out in the rain. Stolen in June and given up for lost, out of mind but not heart. All there but with that weatherbeaten-leaning-against-the-garage look. Saddle as low as it will go, bars upturned, missing Velox plugs, stucco abrasions everywhere, but there it is with the Specialized hubs on Wolber Mod. 58's I built in 1987, my favorite B17 Champion, those original made by Mr. Blackburn himself front and rear racks, those sexily smooth Simplex Retroshifters, TA cyclotourist, Mafac Racers with Matthausers. The shock is slowly being replaced with the thrill.

Story over,
Craig Montgomery
