I'd be a little surprised, but not totally shocked to see an English BB on the bike in question. My own Torelli-Masi Pista has an Italian thread BB, but I've seen other Italian bikes from the same era with English BBs. My late 1980s Aelle-R Torpado had an English BB, and in the mid 1990s, DeBernardi made a lower-end Tre Tubi Aelle frame with an English BB (I believe the rest of the line used Italian thread). I can only speculate, but perhaps some of the production frame shops had a particularly good (and cheap) supply of low-cost English BBs for use on their entry-level frames.
...and I promise not to mention eBay again (or at least not for a long, long time).
