Subject: [CR]Re: rear facing drop-outs

I have two fixed gear bikes, one is a converted Motobecane with road style horizontal drop-outs and the other a lugged steel 29er cyclo-cross bike with rear facing ones, built by one of Mr Berry's Canadian fellow builders at True North. I thought that the reason for rear facing drop outs was a safety measure: if your track nut slips at speed, your loosened axel will hit the notch in the rear facing drop out. In a foreward facing one, the wheel could ram into the seqt tube or the bottom bracket with unfortunate results. True, or fakeIore? I love riding both of mine. Doug Wagner Richmond, KY USA
