Since joining this list, several members have had the need to post regarding items purchased and paid for from Hilary Stone, that have either never arrived or have been other than described.
Regretfully I am the latest victim of Hilary's inexplicable behaviour.
Just over 2 months ago I purchased via ebay, and paid via Paypal for a Cyclo Oppy derailleur and change lever. The text regarding the item stated clearly that the derailleur would be supplied with a chainstay mounting clamp. As my intended frame was without the necessary brazeon, the clamp was a vital requirement for me to make use of the derailleur, and it was on this basis that I bid on, and subsequently won the derailleur.
After about a month, the derailleur arrived without its mounting clamp. An email to Hilary brought a reply a few days later to the effect that he was away from home at the present, but that he would forward the clamp the following week. Reassured by this, I left things alone for a couple of weeks to allow for the postage time to Australia.
This time passed, and no clamp was received. A number of polite emails were then sent to Hilary inquiring of the clamp. No reply has been received to any of them, although the email address in question was previously replied from, and most interestingly, at abouit the same time, Hilary made at least 5 contributions to the CR list from that same email.
Unfortunately, in 'doing the right thing' and giving Hilary the benefit of doubt, the period in which to seek redress through Ebay and Paypal has elapsed.
Short of taking some form of legal action in the UK, about all I can do for the moment is 'out' Hilary's behaviour and add my name to those who would warn the classic/vintage cycle community of the apparently less than honest behaviour shown in this case.
